Evaluation of Building Schools for the Future (BSF)

The CHDPP is involved in the evaluation of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) capital investment programme in England, which aims at ensuring that all secondary schools in the country have 21st Century facilities within 10-15 years from 2005-06. Examples of improved school infrastructure include technology integrated into the classroom (such as interactive whiteboards and digital projectors), flexible/dividable learning spaces, and attractive, colourful décor with the imaginative use of space and light. Undertaken by the Department for Education and Skills, BSF is an innovative and landmark policy which is the biggest single UK Government investment in improving school buildings in 50 years. As part of the evaluation team, the CHDPP is currently involved in designing and modelling the quasi-experimental evaluation strategy which will be used to assess the impact of this initiative on the educational outcomes of students, as well as the transmission mechanisms through which effects occur.  [References]
